The Balance: Everything in Between

Balancing everything isn’t about having a perfect routine—it’s about knowing what matters most at any given moment. I juggle a lot: touring with December Avenue, writing music for Above Velvet Air, being a husband and a dad, and somehow still making time for my koi, my bonsai, and my garden. Some days, it’s chaos. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Touring & Writing for Two Worlds
Playing with Dec Ave is muscle memory at this point. The energy of the crowd, the songs, the band—it’s familiar, and it runs on its own rhythm. But when it comes to Above Velvet Air, it’s different. It’s personal. It’s me rebuilding myself as an artist, stepping into a space where I create without expectations. Switching between the two isn’t easy, but both keep me going in different ways.
Family: The Real Center of It All
No matter how much time I spend on music, Trish and Izzy are always the real priority. Touring means being away, missing moments I can’t get back. But when I’m home, I make sure I’m really there. Whether that’s late-night talks with Trish or just holding Izzy while she sleeps—those little moments keep me grounded.
Fish, Trees, and Slowing Down
Maybe it comes with age, but I’ve realized I just want everything to slow down. To live in the moment. I used to always chase something—success, recognition, the next big thing. But now, I find more meaning in watching koi swim, trimming a bonsai, or just being present. These things remind me that not everything needs to move fast. Some things take time, and that’s okay.
The Reality of Change
Over time, I’ve learned that not everything stays the same—people, priorities, even the things that once felt permanent. And that’s okay. It just makes you appreciate the people and moments that truly got your back. The ones who are there through everything.
Figuring It Out as I Go
I won’t lie—balancing all this isn’t easy. Some days, I feel like I’m barely keeping up. But I remind myself why I do all this in the first place. Music, family, the little things that make life feel real. It’s not about doing everything at once—it’s about making sure the things that matter don’t get left behind.
