Making Waves: Creative Partnership with Yamaha Music Philippines

Music has always been about evolution—finding new sounds, pushing boundaries, and creating something that resonates. Last year, I took a step forward in that journey by entering a partnership with Yamaha Music Philippines, a collaboration that not only provided me with the MODX6+ but also aligned with my vision for Above Velvet Air.
In 2023, Yamaha Corporation strengthened its presence in the country by establishing Yamaha Music Philippines Inc. as its official local subsidiary. This allowed Yamaha to connect directly with Filipino musicians, making their world-class instruments more accessible and expanding their impact in the local music scene. Being part of this movement, as both an artist and a collaborator, is something I truly appreciate.
The MODX6+ is a versatile synthesizer that delivers rich, immersive sound with endless creative possibilities. Lightweight yet powerful, it brings expressive dynamics and deep textures that help shape the atmosphere of my music. I mainly use it for my studio recordings, layering intricate synths and ambient tones that define the sound of Above Velvet Air. Thanks to Ian Salegumba and the Yamaha Music Philippines marketing team, this partnership became a reality—something I’m truly grateful for.
Fast forward to March 2, 2025, at Uptown Mall, Bonifacio Global City, where Yamaha Music Philippines hosted an exclusive Synthesizer Product Demo featuring the legendary Ujiie Katsunori, who showcased the innovation and versatility of Yamaha’s finest synths. Being part of an event with such a visionary was an experience in itself, but what made it even more special was that it marked the first-ever live performance of Above Velvet Air.
For the first time, I shared Above Velvet Air with an audience, performing my debut single Close to Me, alongside two unreleased songs, Yearning and Over Again. To bring the full sonic experience to life, I brought in keyboardist JB Pajulio, who played synth alongside me. His performance added depth and atmosphere to the set, allowing the live rendition to capture the emotion and textures that define Above Velvet Air.
Stepping into that spotlight felt like a breath of fresh air—as if I was an upcoming artist, a newbie all over again. And I embraced it.
It only goes to show that I am not afraid to start over again—to rebuild, to explore, to step into new territory with nothing but my tools, my skills, and above all, my heart that beats for music. With Yamaha Music Philippines, I’ve found a partner that fuels creativity and encourages artists like me to make waves—not just in sound, but in the stories we tell through music.
This is just the beginning, and I’m looking forward to where this road leads next.
